Is it possible to have created a Tulpa by accident... probably while initially thinking it was due to DID? I have alters due to DID, but there is one particular system mate who I've been wondering is actually a Tulpa...
Avatar
You can have both
Avatar
I think that some are both at once.
Avatar
I did make my tulpas by accident at first. But there the best things that happened to me tho. But don't make two tulpas at the same time becomes very difficult to concentrate with both of them. Have to work with them one at a time. It's the only way it works for me so far... Dose anyone else have any opinions on it? (edited)

hello

I'm currently researching tulpas before I decide whether I want to make one or not. If I do, I was thinking of navi as a base design and maybe adjusting her as she grows. Good idea or bad one?
Avatar
It's a pretty common way to do things, so definitly not a bad idea
1:10 PM
or, not navi specifically, but a "glowy ball"
Avatar
I did think of that but I think navi would be cool but easy
1:10 PM
only difference is the wings

listen
Avatar
she definitely won't have her voice though 😂
Avatar
yeah, it's not a bad idea, beyond the risk of that happening
1:11 PM
"I made a navi tulpa, guys" .... "help me"
Avatar
She won't shut up help!
Avatar
you have any other concerns or questions?
Avatar
I know it's not ethical to kill off a tulpa but is there a way you can send them off?
1:12 PM
like a friend moving or something?
Avatar
Fair warning, I may suddenly leave due to real life in the way, but until then:
1:12 PM
you can do things like "storing" your tulpa in stasis
Avatar
where you imagine them going into something like a cryo chamber until later.
1:12 PM
there are also "moral" options, so far as I am concerned, in regards to tulpa dissipation
1:13 PM
namely, if your dissipate your tulpa simply by means of beginning to believe they are fake.
1:13 PM
like, if your tulpa is active and you're actively trying to shut them out, bad deal
1:13 PM
but I think people really overestimate what dissipation entails in the average person who does it.
Avatar
yes
1:14 PM
I understand it is basically like killing someone
1:14 PM
also for the cryo chamber thing, do they have to be willing? (edited)
Avatar
That's a question of your moral compass
1:15 PM
but my first instinct is "no"
1:15 PM
no, sorry, "yes" they have to be willing
1:15 PM
and "no" it isn't a good thing to force stasis against will
Avatar
Again, I'm a bad guy to talk to on this topic because I am very notorious for telling people "you can dissipate your tulpa and it isn't akin to murder".
1:16 PM
I think that, as long as you do what you feel is right
1:16 PM
you're in the green
Avatar
just do what feels right, if you have a tulpa that shouldn't be dissipated, you'll damn well know it (edited)
1:17 PM
same for stasis and other options. Some do have their tulpa "leave" the wonderland as well, but that's kind of something I personally think is physically impossible.
1:17 PM
but, regardless, people do it, and it's an option
Avatar
ok thank you

Indigo started off as a glowy orb and then chose his own form once he was sentient
1:21 PM
You shouldn't make a tulpa if you think you might decide to kill them @_@
Avatar
Most of mine were just voices that popped into my head that I eventually gave appearances to
1:22 PM
...I feel like I should be concerned about that
Avatar
Tacio's original form was very different from how he decided to make it
Avatar
What's your reason for asking about dissipation? Worried about something specific? @Brad Sage
Avatar
so was mine
1:23 PM
though, less so
Avatar
just in case something goes wrong I want to know that there is an ethical out
1:29 PM
@nivereno
Avatar
Ethics in general are subjective, but tulpa ethics are extra subjective
Avatar
yes but I know straight up killing them is wrong
1:32 PM
that's why I wanted to know if there were alternative ways
1:34 PM
another question I have. I hear it's best to start by imagining objects, is it best to focus on the sight or feel first?
Avatar
It's best to start with something you think is best to start with, focusing on what you think is a good thing to focus on first
Avatar
Best to start with narration and getting to the point you don't feel like you are taking to yourself anymore
Avatar
I'm not talking about tulpas, more everyday objects
Avatar
And that includes imagining form and all that
Avatar
You don't need to have good object imagining skills to have a tulpa
Avatar
Then I've no idea, sorry, not practiced very strongly with visualization
1:37 PM
oh never mind I just read it's for better tactile hallucination 😛 (edited)
Avatar
I can't see anything (at least, that's what I feel) in my imagination, yet I have a tulpa that came out fine
1:38 PM
So no worries there
Avatar
also how long should I research before making a tulpa to make sure I don't rush into things?
Avatar
The more the better, but depends entirely on you
Avatar
Research is good, but when you're done with it I'd just plain old say wait a few weeks to see if the concept grows on you or loses its luster.
Avatar
@Brad Sage if something went "wrong" it would be your own fault 🤔
Avatar
@Brad Sage Several things.
4:38 PM
First, it is best practice to approach the possibility of making a tulpa as irreversable - as for all practical intents and purposes, it is.
4:39 PM
Once a tulpa is sufficiently developed, to the point where they can interact with you of their own volition (in other words, not strongly dependent on your attention and to the point that is fairly unambiguously 'independent' as far as a tulpa can be), it is extremely difficult to dissipate them.
4:40 PM
"Stasis" is possible by ignoring them, certainly - as is eventual dissipation if they don't essentially cling to being active. However, ignoring them until they go away is not something that you should really view as an option when going into it.
4:41 PM
In other words, don't treat a tulpa as disposable or making one as a reversable process - treat it as the serious decision that it is and take your time before making a final decision.
4:42 PM
You have a very very long time (relatively speaking) to choose to make a tulpa, and a very long time to make that tulpa if you do choose to make one.
4:43 PM
Second - form is imaginary. It is solely there as a means of symbolism, a different way to contextualize communication. Let them choose their own if they can, certainly - but it isn't too important.
4:44 PM
Third - trying to impose is associated with tulpas but ultimately not intrinsically related, as it is simply learning to experience controlled hallucinations. ...most people use them to interact with their tulpas, hence why it is associated with them - but controlled hallucinations are by no means exclusive to tulpas if you choose to work on developing them.
4:45 PM
Fourth... treat your tulpa with all the respect, consideration, and kindess that you would afford another person - right from the outset. While some have said things can go wrong as a result, I haven't personally seen such happening.
4:45 PM
So - don't be hugely concerned there, unless you plan on being directly abusive.
4:46 PM
...in which case, don't make a tulpa.
4:46 PM
thank you

Not a problem.

Feel free to ask anything else you are curious about - plenty of people will be happy to help.
